The place of the Buddha’s enlightenment and one of the world’s most
sacred pilgrimage sites, the school has four principle objectives:
1. To provide skills and employment opportunities to Indian youth.
2. To provide these young artists with the philosophical and ethical skills
to effect positive change in their communities.
3. To bringhome to north India, to the ancient Buddhist state of Magadh,
the art formthat began here but since has been lost.
4. To preserve the art traditions of the Karma Gadri for future generations.
The full-time program
The Bodhichitra School of Thangka Painting offers a comrehensive 4-year
Program in the skill to create thangka painting in the Karma Gadri tradition,
Including theory, iconography, composition and painting. Students attend
Classses 6 days a week,approxmately six hours a day.
The school accepts local and foriegn students, male and female, with
Following qualifications:
* at least 15 years of age
* in good health and ofsound mind
* secondary education
*a strong sense of commitment to sacred painting
Short-term Courses
Bodhichitra also offers a number of short courses ranging in length from
weekend to week-long focusing on specific content, such as painting a
paricular drawing or dieties. Private courses of any duration and subject can
be arranged on request. The school accepts adult students of either sex and
any nationality with a sincere interest in sacred art.
